About Blue Planet Eyewear

ALIGNING A BRAND WITH VALUES THAT MATTER MOST

Blue Planet Eyewear was founded in Carpinteria, California in 2009 by veteran eyeglasses expert David Weinstein, whose passion for stylish, high-quality yet low-cost sunglasses, readers and sports eyewear began in 1982 with Blue Gem Sunglasses. After enjoying nearly three decades as a wholesale sunglasses and eyewear leader distributing to eyeglasses retailers across the globe, the eco-minded entrepreneur –  consciously aware of the waste in eyewear frames manufacturing – set out to create a new brand of wholesale sunglasses and readers that aligned with his family's core values. Carefully and thoughtfully designing a trend-setting collection of eyeglasses styles from recycled plastics and reclaimed metals, as well as natural materials such as bamboo and wood, he launched a distinctive new eyeglasses and sunglasses brand: Blue Planet Eyewear. But the West Coast visionary would only live to see his bold new brand grow and thrive for three short years.

Fortuitously, David and his wife Deborah instilled in their children the same values and philanthropic spirit that set Blue Planet Eyewear apart from most other eyeglassesmanufacturers in the market – and when the time came, their son Matt was well prepared to carry on in the tradition of his founder father. Growing up entrenched in and inspired by the coastal California lifestyle, Matt embraced his new role. Along with his spouse Lisa, who serves as the company’s CEO, they not only continued to build upon a family legacy of excellence, but also emerged as a company determined to be a positive force for change in the world.

A PHILANTHROPIC SPIRIT FOCUSED ON ORIGINALITY, STYLE AND SUSTAINABILITY

In addition to selling hip, trendy, affordable and fun sunglasses and readers, Blue Planet Eyewear is serious about philanthropy, in large part as a result of Matt's experience working at an orphanage in Africa in 2012—and caring for his father when he was diagnosed with cancer that same year. He's also part of the millennial generation known collectively for pledging loyalty to brands that have more than just profit as their purpose. Blue Planet Eyewear is changing lives every day by providing sight to someone in need with their buy-to-give Visualize Change program. Forging meaningful relationships with humanitarian organizations that distribute the company's donated eyewear, Matt, Lisa and a dedicated staff have established Blue Planet Eyewear as a mission-driven, eco-friendly wholesale sunglasses and eyeglasses brand that aligns not only with his family's values, but also with customers who are committed to making socially responsible purchases that feel good, look good and do good.

No gimmicks, just pure desire to give back

Blue Planet Eyewear believes every person is entitled to the gift of sight, yet it's estimated that 285 million people—19 million children—are visually impaired worldwide.

According to experts, approximately 80 percent of all visual impairment can be prevented or cured by the right eyewear. That's why Blue Planet Eyewear is committed to doing the right thing.

Through its Visualize Change program, which donates one pair of glasses for every frame purchased, Blue Planet Eyewear is proud to partner with renowned humanitarian organizations such as SEE International, Feed the Children, Direct Relief, and Best Day Foundation to provide support to men, women and children around the world who are struggling with vision impairment.

To date, Blue Planet Eyewear has donated more than 1,000,000 pairs of glasses to those in need through these charitable organizations:
